Have you heard of Alex's Lemonade Stand?

In 2000, a 4 year old cancer patient named Alexandra "Alex" Scott announced a seemingly simple idea -she was holding a lemonade stand to raise money to help "her doctors" find a cure for kids with cancer. The idea was put into action by Alex and her older brother, Patrick, when they set up the first "Alex's Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer" on their front lawn in July of 2000.

For the next four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands and other fundraising events have been held across the country by children, schools, businesses, and organizations, all to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer. On August 1st, 2004, Alex died peacefully at the age of 8 -- she had raised over $1 million for childhood cancer research in her short lifetime.

Alex's spirited determination to raise awareness and money for all childhood cancer while she bravely fought her own deadly battle with cancer has inspired thousands of people, from all walks of life to raise money and give to her cause. Alex's family and supporters are committed to continuing her inspiring legacy through Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501c3 charity. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised over $25 million for childhood cancer research. The result -- Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has given millions of dollars for childhood cancer research across the country!

Mission Statement
To raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures.
To encourage and educate others, especially children, to raise money for childhood cancer by holding their own lemonade stands.
To expedite the process of finding new cures and bringing them to children with cancer now.

Our Vision
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation shares the vision of its founder and creator, Alexandra “Alex” Scott – a cure for all children with cancer.

Another year has passed and our young Baxter-resident cancer survivors will be serving up another round of celebratory lemonade. This marks our 6th year for the event.- Fort Mill, SC

The Baxter Stand is the collective effort of three families who have each personally been touched by childhood cancer Brad and Lorie Lower's daughter, Louise, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma shortly after her 4th birthday. Louise underwent surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC shortly after her diagnosis. After six years Louise remains cancer free.
In the third year of holding their lemonade stand, the Lowers met Jeff and Heather Lux, whose son Austin, had also been diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Austin received a combination of treatments in Boston, MA and continues to do well.

Prior to the 2007 stand, Scott and Jennifer DeNobile met the Luxes and the Lowers and shared their story of their son, Vincent. Vincent, too had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 13 months and after a successful surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York is cancer free after three years.

The story of these three youngsters with similar stories living in such close proximity is uncanny. The fact that Louise, Austin, and Vincent are all healthy is nothing short of miraculous.

We work 7 days a Week here!

Usually, we work 7 days a week....about 12-16 hour days. We're super busy! THAT'S GOOD!

We decided to take a few days off "off" and spend some time with our family at the beach. The funny thing is, I still have a computer "card" that I can use whenever, where ever I feel! I'm riding down the road, emailing, twittering, contacting companies, placing company orders, running the company on the interstate!!

I LOVE being able to catch up on all of our customer service, answer customer questions, and be on top of things in what would usually be some down time.

It was so funny today, I was trying to work online, my husband is blaring his own "ipod" tunes, my kids are watching the DVD and calling out demands " drink please, crackers please, etc. etc. etc.." I'm working with customers via email and all is going on at once.

Gotta LOVE how you can combine work and family! Stressful, but it somehow all gets done. :) Multi-tasking in business and with families is a must...especially for a full-time MOM and business woman/owner!

Thanks for reading!

Cinco de Mayo Salsa Recipe from The Palm Gifts

Cinco de Mayo Salsa Recipe from The Palm Gifts http://www.thepalmgifts.com
Get your Fiesta started with Cinco de Mayo Salsa Recipe from

Hola Amiga! Don't forget your favorite casa to shop for
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fresh Tomato Cinco de Mayo Salsa
Ingredients
2-3 medium sized fresh tomatoes (from 1 lb to 1 1/2 lb), stems removed, finely diced
1/2 red onion, finely diced
1 jalapeño chili pepper (stems, ribs, seeds removed), finely diced
1 serano chili pepper (stems, ribs, seeds removed), finely diced
Juice of one lime
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: oregano and or cumin to taste
Method
1 Start with chopping up 2 medium sized fresh tomatoes. Prepare the chilies. Be very careful while handling these hot peppers. If you can, avoid touching them with your hands. Use a fork to cut up the chilies over a small plate, or use a paper towel to protect your hands. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and hot water after handling and avoid touching your eyes for several hours. Set aside some of the seeds from the peppers. If the salsa isn’t hot enough, you can add a few for heat.
2 Combine all of the ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Taste. If the chilies make the salsa too hot, add some more chopped tomato. If not hot enough, carefully add a few of the seeds from the chilies, or add some ground cumin.
Let sit for an hour for the flavors to combine.
Makes approximately 3-4 cups.
Mint Julep: A Kentucky Derby MUST HAVE! You can't celebrate the Derby without these!!
Southern Living
Mint Julep Recipe
Yield
1 serving
Ingredients
1/4 cup bourbon
1 tablespoon Mint Syrup (Recipe below)
Garnish: fresh mint sprigs
Mint Syrup Recipe
Yield
2 3/4 cups
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped fresh mint
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Preparation
Tie mint in a cheesecloth bag, and place in a saucepan. Add sugar and 2 cups water; bring mixture to a boil. Cook, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
Remove from heat; cover and let cool. Remove and discard cheesecloth bag.
Mint Julep Cupcakes
yum.com
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon mint extract
4 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup Jack Daniels (or other whiskey/bourbon)
1/2 cup Creme de Menthe
3 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon mint extract
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 stick unsalted butter
meltedmilk
1. Preheat the oven to 350F, and grease or line 36 cupcake cups.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the extracts, salt, baking powder, and 1 3/4 cups of the flour.
3. Add the milk and liquors to the batter, then the rest of the flour. Mix as little as possible, just until the batter comes together.
4. Divide evenly (I use an ice-cream scoop) among the cupcake cups. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Let cool.
5. To make the icing, combine the powdered sugar, salt, extracts and melted butter. (I think this works best with a stand mixer with the whip attachment or a hand-held mixer.) Add milk very slowly until the texture is right for piping.
6. When the cupcakes are completely cook, pipe or spread the icing on top and enjoy!
Easy Easter Egg Decorating Party How To and Pointers!!
Last year I decided to host an Egg Decorating Party! Simple Easter Party Planning Tips from The Palm Gifts!
The list kept getting larger and larger until I had over 30 kids RSVP! One simple thing I did not read up on was how to boil this many eggs for so many kids! I decided to read up on this and have handy just in case any of our readers need help. ONE KEY NOTE: DO NOT BOIL MORE THAN 24 EGGS in one pot at a time! This will save you many trips to the local store at midnight the night before 30 kids come to your house for a party!
OTHER POINTERS:
Have the eggs ready before kids arrive. Go ahead and color them yourself. Parents will LOVE you for this! Don't forget to have some blue ones for the boys!
Limit number of eggs per child.
Have stickers, glitter pens, markers, crayons etc on tables in your yard ready for the kids to start decorating.
Purchase in-expensive Easter Baskets or have children bring their own to take their creations home in.
Have Easter Music (you can find tons on itunes.) Play during the decorating.
Have a little refreshment table. We had pink lemonade for drinks, orange slices, fresh strawberries, blueberries, grapes. Keep it light and simple.
Have a goodie bag full of Easter stickers, candy and or easter bunny cookies for kids to take home. Keep it simple with a clear cello bag and ribbon tie.
On a side note: Last year, I thought I'd host a "WINE and EASTER EGG BOIL" for the moms prior to our Easter Egg Party for the kids. The moms would meet a day before the party and boil the eggs and socialize. This will help you with your workload because BELIEVE ME boiling 10 dozen eggs takes TIME!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

How to boil your eggs: The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg 1 dozen eggs 1 teaspoon salt Boiling the perfect egg isn't difficult, but it does take patience. Cooking the eggs at a low simmer will make them easier to peel and help prevent cracks. Cool immediately after cooking to eliminate the unattractive grayish green circle that can form around the yolk. These hard-boiled eggs can be used immediately, or dyed and decorated and featured first in your Easter egg hunt and later as deviled eggs. Place the eggs in a single layer, without crowding, in a 2- or 3-quart saucepan. Add water to cover by 2 inches and then the salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Immediately remove the eggs from the hot water and plunge them into a basin of very cold water to cool down, or rinse under cold running water for about 5 minutes. To peel, roll the large end of the egg on a countertop to crack the shell. Hold the egg under cold running water, and peel away the shell. Store unpeeled hard-boiled eggs in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Our totes came today while I was at work. My daughter, Katie, was home when they delivered and called me to tell me they arrived. She was so excited by how cute they were!. Katie recently became engaged and is taking the girls she plans on asking to stand up in her wedding to dinner on Friday night and asking them all at once to be in her wedding. We thought the tote bags with the girls name on them in the colors of the wedding would be a great way to thank them for their friendship and let them know how important they all are to Katie. I could hardly wait to get home to see them. Rebecca, you and your husband just made my day as well as my daughters. I wish I had taken a picture so you could see how Katies' face lite up as she was showing me all the totes. I just had to send you this little note of appreciation. Please thank your husband as well. I spoke to you on the phone the night I placed the order to ensure we would have them on time, and you were so sweet! Thanks again, and I will tell all I know about your .com business and the GREAT service you provided. I wish you years and years of success and happiness!With much gratitude,Sue G.

I was shopping online for some tote bags, and came across thepalmgifts.com.So, last thursday afternoon (3-19-2009) I placed an order for 4 lightweight tote bags and 2 eco-tote bags. Thinking this would take 2-4 weeks (I feel like thats what your website said), I basically forgot about the order. Figured in 2 weeks I would start to think about it again. On Monday, UPS came to the door with a small package. I was confused, I didn't know what I had ordered. To my surprise, there were 4 beautiful monogrammed tote bags. I couldn't believe you processed and shipped them so quickly. When I ship things to my family in NC it takes at least a few days. Shipping and mongramming together, and it was at my door in 3 days?! I figured it was because they were "lightweight" and not terribly hard. Then today, Thursday (3-26-2009) UPS arrived with another package. The Eco Totes were here! They look soooooooo much nicer than I thought they would! I figured they would be nice, but not THIS nice! So in a week your company managed to process, complete, package and I guess you lit a fire under UPS to get them here so quick?
Well, I just wanted to say that you have made another couple VERY happy. Please, post any or all of this on your site or wherever to let people know how amazing your company is. Definatly will think of thepalmgifts.com the next time I need to order something personalized!!!! (I'm already looking on the site again and I don't actually need anything..)
Thank you soooo much for amazing and quick service. Everything looks so nice!!!

My beverage coozy arrived today and I LOVE it! Y'all did an amazing job and I'll make sure to send folks your way.

I really appreciate you going the extra mile by calling me after I hadn't responded to your e-mail. Businesses with that kind of "go the extra mile" customer service are, unfortunately, rare these days and I wanted you to know just how much I appreciate that. So, thank you one million times over. It was a pleasure working with you.

Sincerely,
Kate P
